Novella Bessie Norwood

May 15, 1916 ~ August 7, 2018 (age 102)
Novella Bessie Norwood, 102, of North Little Rock, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday evening August 7th, 2018. Known by all as Mamaw, she touched many lives, especially after she retired from the florist business. A Christian, she was a long-time member of Baring Cross Baptist Church. Later in life, she moved her membership to First Baptist of Sherwood.
She began her work life at the age of 16. She started as a "clipper" at Tuf-Nut but in her 25-year career there, she worked her way up to supervisor of the sewing room. She married James Robert Norwood on July 3rd, 1947. After the birth of their daughter, her career path went in an entirely different direction. Her husband purchased a small flower shop and she became a florist. With absolutely no training, she started from scratch. Somehow, she learned the trade and became incredibly successful. On at least two occasions, she was asked to decorate Governor Clinton's office at Christmastime. In fact, the little shop in the backyard grew to three locations before she finally sold the company and retired. Retirement did not suit Novella. Before too long she found herself as a Volunteer in Public Schools (VIP) working with her daughter, the school nurse at Horace Mann Magnet Middle School. She was one of the student's favorites. In fact, she was the LRSD Volunteer of the year in 2008. She achieved this honor when she was 92 years old. She tolerated football but loved basketball, especially the Razorbacks and Michael Jordan. In fact, you could sometimes catch her "shooting hoops" well into her 90's.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Clarence and Nora Graham. As well as all her siblings; Walter (Alice), Estel (Faye), Raymond (Maxine), Lucille (Clyde). She is survived by her daughter, Tana Jones (Bob) and four grandchildren; Chris (Sandy), Graham (Kristen), Spencer, and McKinsey (Brooks) and one niece, Camilla Graham Robinson and one nephew Mike Graham. Visitation will be at North Little Rock Funeral Home Sunday, 6-8 pm and services Monday at 11:00 am in the chapel. Burial to follow at Pine Crest Cemetery.
